the Role The Department of Computer Science is looking for a proactive and organised HR Officer to join our evolving HR team and play an important role in delivering a high-quality HR service across the full employee lifecycle. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a busy HR environment, takes pride in getting things right and is keen to develop their HR knowledge and experience. Working in close partnership with a Senior HR Officer, you will provide day-to-day operational HR support across recruitment and onboarding, contractual changes, payroll, casual workers, immigration administration and leavers. You will take responsibility for progressing routine HR processes, providing first-level advice to staff and managers, maintaining accurate records and ensuring actions are completed accurately and on time. Working independently within established procedures, you will use initiative and sound judgement to resolve routine issues and recognise when more complex matters should be escalated. The role is part of our full employee lifecycle approach to HR service delivery, built around strong partnership, clear ownership and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to develop broad HR experience, work closely with experienced colleagues and progress towards more complex HR responsibilities over time. About You You will have experience of working in an HR team or HR role and a good working understanding of HR policies and procedures. You will be comfortable dealing with routine HR queries, communicating clearly with staff and managers and managing competing priorities. Proactive and confident working independently, you will take ownership of your work, follow tasks through and use sound judgement to decide when to resolve matters yourself and when to seek advice. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential, alongside the ability to provide a professional and responsive service. You will enjoy working collaboratively while being able to manage your own workload effectively. An interest in using digital tools and technology to improve processes and ways of working would be particularly welcome. Experience within the University or higher education would be useful. About Us The University of Oxford is an internationally renowned centre of excellence. The Department of Computer Science is recognised for pioneering research and teaching and its commitment to innovation. Our HR team supports a diverse and growing community of staff. What We Offer Benefits include an excellent contributory pension scheme, 38 days’ annual leave (pro rata), childcare services, family leave schemes, a cycle loan scheme, discounted bus travel and season ticket travel loans, and access to social and sports clubs. Hybrid working is available, with the usual on-site presence for departmental staff being three days per week. Diversity: We are committed to equality and valuing diversity.
