Environment, Design and Creative Function for a Weave Technical Instructor at De Montfort University. The position is available as a 0.6 FTE Annualised hours post. Working within our textile workshops, you will play a key role in the operation and maintenance of our Weave facilities, supporting teaching, learning and project work across a range of programmes. You will provide expert advice, practical demonstrations and technical support to students and staff, ensuring equipment is used safely, effectively and to the highest standards. Main purpose of the post: Contribute as part of a team in the effective provision and availability of specialist equipment and work areas in order to facilitate curriculum delivery, student learning, research and the possibility of commercial activity. Provide highly skilled technical assistance, guidance and instruction to all users, demonstrating equipment and processes as appropriate. Duties and responsibilities: Provide technical support, advice and demonstrations in woven and related constructed textiles. This includes all technical aspects of hand and dobby looms, from yarn preparation through to finished cloth. Using industry standard warp, weft and yarn calculations. Working with specialist software in relation to the dobby and power looms. Support the growth of the weave workshop resources, including the acquisition and commissioning of new equipment. Contribute to the creation of learning materials, maintain tools, equipment and processes in the Weave workshop. Promote best practice within the weave technical workshop, monitor safety and keep accurate records. Support the creation and development of learning and promotional material. Support events such as Open Days, Degree Show and exhibitions as required. Ideal Candidate: An HND, relevant technical qualification, or substantial practical experience in a related field. Experience operating large-format Mimaki textile printers and associated digital print software. Excellent technical skills and a strong attention to detail. Experience working within a workshop, studio or technical environment and Weave machinery Demonstrating specialist equipment, techniques and workflows. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical information to a range of users. A commitment to maintaining high standards of service, safety and customer support. Ability to lead a class in demonstrating equipment and process  The following would be advantageous: Experience of traditional textile processing and manufacture. Experience working within a Further or Higher Education environment. Experience developing safe working procedures and technical protocols.
