teaching and research laboratories. In this role you will assume responsibility for a number of administrative tasks supporting the Technical Supervisor and wider technical team, such as ordering (including keeping records of expenditure on specific grant codes), liaising with Estates & external contractors, setting up and maintaining service contracts for equipment and maintaining up to date inventories of equipment. This is in addition to the general duties of Chemical Engineering technical staff, who provide advice, instruction and services in analytical and instrumentation techniques to staff and students across the Department and the Faculty of Engineering & Design. You will have a passion for helping others, for working in a higher education environment, and supporting ground-breaking research. You will assist in the smooth and efficient running of teaching and research laboratories, with a strong focus on the promotion of, and compliance with, health and safety. This is a student-facing role, so the post-holder needs to be confident working and communicating with a diverse student (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) population. You will be instructing and supervising students in the safe operation of laboratory equipment during both timetabled sessions and while conducting research projects. The primary responsibilities of the role are: To assist the Technical Supervisor in establishing and implementing best practice in the management of the facilities including forward planning of the effective usage of materials, equipment and space. To assist the Technical Supervisor with the management of laboratory and workshop facilities, asset control and maintenance, purchasing/procurement, stock level, asset tracking and inventory recording. To deputise for the Technical Supervisor in their absence and to represent the Department at meetings, etc. as required. To ensure that laboratory equipment and instrumentation is appropriately maintained and in full working order, particularly in the laboratories for which they are designated custodian. To assist with other activities such as H&S Inductions, laser and chemical safety, cryogenic liquids & cryogenic systems and ordering of consumables Further Information This role is offered on a full-time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis.
